Bramaterra DOC

Provinces of Biella and Vercelli / created 1979


Vineyard Area (2020):

Approx. 30 hectares between the limits of 200-600 metres above sea level. 


Soil:

Brown/red volcanic porphyry in granite with elements of clay and limestone.


Grapes:

50-80% Nebbiolo, maximum 30% Croatina, maximum 20% combined of Uva Rara (Bonarda Novarese) and/or Vespolina.


Ageing:

22 months total with 18 in wood. Riserva 34 months with 24 in wood


Bordered by Lessona to the West and a chunk of Gattinara to the East, Bramaterra is scattered across 7 municipalities with ever changing soil compositions and significant temperature variations resulting in many vinous personalities. Monte Rosa towers above the appellation and the wines are thought to take many years to develop and to be very long lived.
