Alto Piemonte is one of Italy's most exciting and undervalued wine regions — and one of our greatest passions. In the mountainous northern reaches of Piedmont, where an ancient supervolcano created a myriad of soil types across the Sesia Valley, Nebbiolo produces wines of a very different character to those of the Langhe. Lighter in colour, more perfumed, more ethereal — and often more age-worthy than their reputations suggest. The volcanic and granite soils of the region impart a haunting mineral quality that is unlike anything else in Italy.

The appellations of Alto Piemonte read like a treasure map for serious wine lovers: Gattinara — the most celebrated, sitting at the heart of the ancient supervolcano — alongside Valli Ossolane, Ghemme, Boca, Lessona, Bramaterra and Sizzano (and we often include Carema in the discussion). Each has its own personality, shaped by altitude, soil composition and the blend of varieties permitted — Nebbiolo here works alongside Vespolina, Croatina and Uva Rara to produce wines of singular complexity.

Our Alto Piemonte range is anchored by Cantine Garrone and Antoniolo — two of the region's most dedicated and exciting producers — alongside a carefully chosen selection of estates who share the same commitment to local wine culture.

These are small production wines from artisan families, many of whom nearly lost their vineyards to history. A passionate new generation is now reviving the region, and the results are extraordinary. This is where serious collectors and curious explorers find wines they'll talk about for years.
