Mouth-watering Gamay gold. Initiated in the 1980s, 'Chez Coste' is a densely planted sub-section of 1.5 hectare cru vineyard 'Perdrizière', facing east at 400m. It is one of the prized jewels of the appellation and ripens late. Grapes are de-stemmed and vinified in porous amphora with maceration lasting around 6 months without sulphur. Pressing is very slow and gentle followed by another 6 months ageing in the same vessel.

Striking, silky and exquisitely refined, this is a masterclass in Gamay. Along with violet, dense cherry and squishy strawberry there's spice and flickers of citrus zest and iron.  'Chez Coste' has depth and amplitude with fine, supple tannins that bolster and lift it. It is so seamlessly clear that you can get lost in it. Bloody excellent, very rare!

The legendary Stéphane and Carine Sérol are the fifth generation custodians of this biodynamic and organically certified estate, producing mouth-wateringly fresh wines from the local, indigenous variant of Gamay, Gamay Saint-Romain. Their plots are densely planted in granite between 400-500m, fermentations are natural and the wines are refreshing, vibrant and mineral. They are masters of whole bunch fermentation and any oak use is delicate and textural. They are our favourite Gamay producer, famed throughout France for their thrilling wines and groundbreaking environmental work in the winery and throughout their vineyards.
