A blend of Nebbiolo and 30% of old vine Croatina (which lends a dark juiciness). The wine is aged for a year in a single large Slavonian oak barrel before spending a year in bottle before market. This is a ridiculously good wine for the price and one of our great loves. Not just another simple red fruited thing, ‘Ca d’Maté’ contains around 30% old-vine Croatina, an earthy, soft-fruit element and typical to the terroirs of Alto Piemonte. The 2019 is gorgeously perfumed with fresh sour cherry and woody herbs perfectly meshed together. It bursts with fruit, energy and finesse with a blood orange twisty finish to match. Not to be overlooked, Nebbiolo lover. A Mountain & Row favourite.

"Beautiful vivid intense ruby colour, right consistency and olfactory sphere given by intense spicy tones. Fragrant with red fruits in the foreground, morello cherries, floral freshness and subtle balsamic notes, the stony sensations of damp soil and fern return. Intense and very fresh palate, soft juicy, embellished by a continuous development of fluidity between fruit and spices, the tannic texture is well defined and reactive, persistent and savory on the finish." Monica Bianciardi - Luciano Pignataro Wine

"Ripe cherry, liquorice root, alpine herbs and baking spices. Great perfume here, and finesse, with supple but firm tannin, a succulence of ripe strawberry and cherry, cool minty acidity, dried herb, and a long finish with fine dusty tannin trailing in its wake, along with a little blood orange bitter bite. So distinctive and lovely. Cantine Garrone is a great producer, and should be on every Nebbiolo lover’s radar." Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
