Grenache Gris is one of the wine world's great undiscovered treasures — and one of our deepest white wine passions. A close relative of Grenache Noir and Blanc, pink-skinned Grenache Gris produces white wines of extraordinary texture, minerality and depth. Its heartland is Roussillon in southern France — specifically the schist and granite slopes of Collioure and Banyuls on the Côte Vermeille — where it produces wines of haunting complexity that reward cellaring and serious attention. Historic plantings also exist in Catalonia and Rioja Oriental, where producers like Carlos Mazo of Vinos en Voz Baja are working with it to remarkable effect. What makes Grenache Gris so compelling is its combination of richness and freshness — a Mediterranean generosity of flavour balanced by the mineral precision of the schist soils it loves.
