Cascina Sòt is one of the most exciting young estates in Barolo — and one of the producers we are proudest to champion in Australia. The story begins with the Sanso family, who worked this land as sharecroppers for decades before purchasing the property in 1975. Their son Leonardo and his wife Silvana made wine the family's sole focus. Then, in 2014, the third generation arrived: Maurizio Sanso, trained at the Wine School of Alba and shaped by experience at other Langhe estates, took over vinification and the estate's commercial direction. The result is a winery that combines a century of accumulated vineyard knowledge with a young winemaker's restless ambition for fruit purity and precision. The vineyards sit among the most prestigious cru of Barolo — on the slopes of Bricco San Pietro in Monforte d'Alba, one of Barolo's most celebrated communes. The soils are marly-calcareous, 80% planted with Nebbiolo. The vines for Cascina Sòt's two Barolo wines are over 90 years old, grown in the Tantesi subzone — a position of extraordinary privilege in one of the world's most competitive appellations. The range covers the full sweep of Piedmontese variety: two distinct Barolo expressions — one lighter and elegant, one showing the deep power of old-vine fruit — alongside a refined Langhe Nebbiolo, a vibrant Rosato, and small quantities of Chardonnay and Nascetta from the cool San Giovanni cru.
