This Nebbiolo Superiore is made from 100% Nebbiolo (known as Chiavennasca locally) grown in Valtellina’s rockiest, toughest sub-zone, ‘Inferno’, between 350 – 550 m. The wine ages for 20 months in large Slavonian oak and has been in production since 1925.
Brooding red currant and cherry character intertwines with floral nuance, alpine herbs, and a touch of incense. There’s a backbone of stony minerality and rocky earth that adds to its complexity. The wine is medium-bodied with a firm structure and lively acidity – decant to drink now or let the wine evolve in a dark cellar (Rainoldi’s wines are famous for their very long lives!)
